Biography

Ku chi Chun is a Taiwanese artist who has gained international recognition for his innovative and boundary-pushing artwork. Born in Taipei, Chun was exposed to art at a young age through her family's involvement in the art world. She quickly developed a passion for painting and drawing, which led her to pursue a career in the arts.

Chun's artistic journey began at the National Taiwan University of Arts, where he studied traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy. However, she quickly became dissatisfied with the limitations of these mediums and began to experiment with other forms of artistic expression. This led him to explore the possibilities of combining traditional Chinese techniques with contemporary Western approaches, resulting in a unique and exciting new style.

Chun's early work was characterized by its use of bright colors and bold, graphic imagery. She often incorporated traditional Chinese motifs such as dragons, phoenixes, and flowers, but reinterpreted them in a modern context. His paintings and prints quickly gained a following in Taiwan's art scene and were featured in numerous exhibitions and galleries.

In 2022, Chun moved to Europe to  gain exposure to new ideas and perspectives. She spent several years in France, where she was heavily influenced by the works of Jeff Koons, Damien Hirst, and other prominent contemporary artists. This exposure to Western art gave Chun a new perspective on her own work, and she began to experiment with new materials and techniques.

Chun's work has been exhibited in major museums and galleries around the world, including the Venice Art Fair, the Grand Palais Art Fair in Paris, Du Lourve Art Shopping, and the Arizona Capital Museum. She has also collaborated with numerous international brands, including Gucci, Fabiana Filippi, and Shiatzy Chen. In addition, Chun has been commissioned to create public artworks for various government agencies, including the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Transportation.

Chun's artistic vision is driven by a desire to bridge the gap between traditional Chinese culture and contemporary Western art. She believes that her work has the power to unite people from different cultures and backgrounds and to promote greater understanding and appreciation of the arts. Chun is committed to using his platform as an artist to inspire others and to promote creativity and innovation.

Chun's work has been described as playful, provocative, and groundbreaking. Her use of bold colors, unexpected materials, and unconventional forms has challenged traditional notions of what art can be and has helped to establish her as one of the most exciting and innovative artists of her generation. Whether working in painting, sculpture, or installation, Chun's work always pushes boundaries and invites viewers to see the world in new and exciting ways.

Concept

With a heritage that can be traced back to Tang Taizong, the second emperor of the Tang dynasty who bestowed her family with its surname, Ku Chi-Chun's artistic practice is deeply anchored in traditional Chinese culture. Her works draw from various forms of classical Chinese painting, including calligraphy, ink painting, and the use of mineral pigments, demonstrating a profound respect for and understanding of the rich artistic heritage of her ancestors.

The historical significance of Ku Chi-Chun's work lies in its ability to bridge the past and present, as well as to connect different cultural traditions. Through her mastery of traditional techniques and materials, she brings to life the beauty and elegance of classical Chinese art while also infusing her works with a contemporary sensibility. Drawing on her background in Chinese calligraphy and painting, she has developed a unique artistic style that blends ancient techniques with modern materials to create visually stunning works of art.

At the core of Kuchichun's artistic concept is the idea of using everyday materials to create extraordinary art. In her signature glue painting technique, she applies layers of glue to a canvas, letting each layer dry before adding the next. The result is a three-dimensional work of art that resembles traditional Asia paintings, but with a modern twist. Kuchichun's glue paintings are characterized by their vibrant colors, intricate details, and rich textures, which draw the viewer in and create a sense of depth and dimensionality.

In her calligraphy works, Kuchichun employs a similar approach, using unconventional materials such as coffee, tea, and ink to create abstract compositions that blur the line between text and art. By manipulating the flow and viscosity of these materials, she creates expressive strokes and shapes that convey a range of emotions and moods.

Kuchichun's art is rooted in her deep appreciation for traditional Asia culture and her desire to preserve and promote these art forms in a modern context. Her works are both a nod to the past and a celebration of the present, reflecting the complex and dynamic nature of contemporary Asia art.

Through her art, Kuchichun aims to inspire others to explore the beauty and richness of traditional Chinese art forms and to experiment with new techniques and materials to create their own unique artistic expressions. Her work is a testament to the power of creativity and innovation to bridge cultures and connect people across time and space.

Core Features of Kuchichun's Artistic Concept:

  1. Innovative use of everyday materials to create three-dimensional works of art.

  2. Blending of traditional Asia art forms with modern techniques and materials.

  3. Celebration of the beauty and richness of traditional Asia culture.

  4. Exploration of the boundaries of calligraphy and painting as art forms.

  5. Inspiration to others to experiment with new techniques and materials.
